WEDNESDAY JULY 29 – Public Hearing and…

PROTEST Against Ratner’s Rip-off — SAY NO TO ATLANTIC YARDS
——————————————————————-

This is our final reminder that tomorrow is a big day in the 6-year long fight against Ratner’s Boondoggle. Please spread the word.

If you can take the afternoon off from work, please start gathering at 1pm but arrive by 2pm.
If you are unable to come in the afternoon please come after work for the 2nd round of protest and hearings at 6pm onward, when we’ll regroup…

Wednesday. July 29. 2pm and 6pm.
Start Gathering at 1pm. Press Conference at 1:30pm.
Outside Klitgord Auditorium of NYC Technical College
285 Jay Street, Near Tillary [Map]
(A/C to Jay St./Borough Hall. 2/3 to Borough Hall, M/R to Lawrence St./MetroTech)

The Empire State Development Corporation (the state agency “overseeing” the Atlantic Yards proposal) is holding a public hearing on the Atlantic Yards project on Wednesday, July 29th.

Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn urges you to join a protest against Ratner’s destructive, secretive project outside the hearing and then testify at the hearing.
(The hearing is scheduled from 2-5 and 6-8.)

Bring Protest Signs. Speak your mind about the project.

This is it: there will be no more public hearings on Atlantic Yards or protests like this one.

This is the community’s chance to tell ESDC and Ratner:

We Don’t Want Atlantic Yards.
We Want Development That Works for the Community,
Not at the Expense of the Community.
Atlantic Yards Must Be Scrapped!

Join DDDB, other community groups, residents, clergy, union members, and elected officials for the 2pm protest.
Please start gathering at 1pm, press conference at 1:30pm and protest at 2pm.
(There will be a second protest and press conference starting at 5:30 and continuing past 6pm for all of those who cannot take a day off for the earlier protest.)

After the protest DDDB asks the public to sign in and testify against the project. (If you are unable to come for the afternoon protest and hearing, DDDB urges you to come for the late afternoon/evening hearing at 6pm. We’ll be inside and outside all day—Look for us!)

Bring Protest Signs. Speak your mind about the project.

Atlantic Yards is a rip-off for taxpayers,
A rip-off for straphangers,
A rip-off for those in need of affordable housing,
A rip-off for those in need of employment.
A rip-off for Brooklynites and a rip off for New Yorkers

It is a boondoggle for Bruce Ratner…
No More Bailouts for Billionaires

[We encourage you to testify. You can sign in to testify starting at 1pm and you can expedite that by printing this sign-up and procedures document, filling it out and bringing it to the hearing.)
—————-

Please note: There is a second day of hearings and public comment on Thursday, July 30 at the same place, again from 2-5 and 6-8. So, if you cannot make the hearing and protest on Wednesday, you have an opportunity to give oral testimony on the 30th. BUT we strongly encourage you to come on July 29th if that is an option for you.

Whether you can come to the hearing and testify, or can’t, PLEASE submit your written comments about the project and responses to the Modified General Project Plan. Here’s how:

Written comments can be submitted via email or U.S. mail.

> A Lot to Ponder: Food for Though for the Protest and Your Testimony
——————————————————————-
In case you weren’t incensed enough about Atlantic Yards, and needed some food for though for the protest and for your oral testimony tomorrow (if you plan to present one) a few points from us and a lot to think about from the Atlantic Yards Report.

The Atlantic Yards proposal has changed so much from its 2006 approval that it requires a Supplemental Environmental Review. But the ESDC has stated that it will not do one. In your testimony please let the ESDC know that a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement must be undertaken.

Also let them know that it is ludicrous and farcical that you are being asked to comment on a project that has no site plan and no renderings; we are being asked to comment on an invisible, unknown project.

And click here to ponder more from Norman Oder on the following subjects:

> The ESDC is rushing this hearing without renderings in order to save Ratner money.

> NYPD arena security planning would come after ESDC rubberstamps project in September.

> Why Design Guidelines cannot be a replacement for actually project renderings.

> ESDC cost-benefit analysis or economic impact analysis does not exist and won’t be subject to public scrutiny.
